About the Artist
Arlene Origoni
Arlene grew up just outside of Spokane, Washington in a small farming
community. While growing up she often went with her grandfather to visit
her uncles in Idaho: one of which (Uncle Bill) was an artist. She would
sit and draw with him while visiting and occasionally he would surprise
her with some new art supplies. It was his encouragement and support
which fueled her enthusiasm for painting.
So began her journey at the age of nine she
picked up her first paint brush and for the next twenty some years she
painted exclusively in oils. Then about ten years ago while attending an
all pastel exhibition she was so impressed with the vibrancy of the
colors and the forgiving nature of pastel she knew it was the medium for
her.
Before moving to Northern Nevada much of
Arlene’s energy went in to exhibitions for both environmental and human
causes working closely with the Ojai Land Conservancy. County of Ventura
In addition to local concerns she has helped to raise the awareness of
our endangered species through working with the International Wildlife
Foundation and the League for Endangered Species. She continues to paint for local and national causes.

The
Wynn Collection, one of the nation's premier private art collections, will
be presented Oct. 2
through March 30, 2005, at the Nevada Museum of Art, 160 West Liberty Street
in Reno. The
exhibition will feature 14 paintings from the collection of Steve and Elaine
Wynn of Las Vegas.
Highlights of the exhibition include Pablo
Picasso's "Le Reve" (The Dream) (1932), a painting
depicting Pablo Picasso's mistress, Marie-Thérése Walter, and Vincent van
Gogh's "Peasant Women
Against a Background of Wheat" (1890), perhaps the most important portrait
of a female sitter in
van Gogh's oeuvre. Works by Impressionist painters include Pierre-Auguste
Renoir's "Among the
Roses" (Madame Leon Clapisson) (1882) and Claude Monet's "Camille l'
Ombrelle Verte"
(Camille with Green Parasol) (1876) as well as Post-Impressionist paintings
such as Henri Matisse's
"The Persian Robe" (1940) and Paul Gauguin's "Bathers" (1902). The
exhibition also features a
triptych portrait of Steve Wynn created in 1983 by Andy Warhol.
The exhibition's presentation at the NMA is
made possible by the generous sponsorship of Nevada businesses and private
individuals committed to making the works available to the northern Nevada
community. The NMA's educational programing includes an optional audio-guide
tour narrated by
Steve Wynn in addition to docent-guided tours at 2 p.m. each Saturday. Tours
for groups and schools
also will be available. The NMA will present a series of gallery talks and
lectures throughout the
exhibition's presentation.
